Our Story​​​

 

Founded in Istanbul in 2004 by longtime friends Ahmet Kurt and Ahmet Ok, KareDeri specializes in the production of high-quality parchment—a rare, refined material crafted today by only a handful of traditional makers worldwide.

Raised in a family of leather artisans, Ahmet Kurt gained hands-on experience at his father’s tannery from an early age. After completing his university studies, he was drawn back to working with leather and focused his expertise on parchment production, combining generational heritage with hands-on experience.

Ahmet Ok, a mechanical engineer by training, first encountered parchment while working as a professional tour guide. Fascinated by its rich history, he developed a deep appreciation for the material. United by their interest in parchment and its possibilities, the two founders began working together to develop new applications for this traditional material.

Today, KareDeri continues to produce parchment, while also developing custom parchment wall panels and surfaces for interior and architectural projects.​ We also design and craft a  line of handcrafted parchment and leather bags.
